Press Conference about the Albany Loop

February 6, 2020

Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline delivered letters to the Public Service Commission and Governor Cuomo stating opposition to the Albany Loop/E37 proposed pipeline. The letter was signed by over 100 organizations. Click here to read the letter.

Over 20 supporters came to the Public Service Commission’s monthly meeting holding their “Stop Albany Loop Pipeline” signs in silent protest against the Albany Loop Pipeline proposal.  (PSC does NOT allow the public to speak at its meetings unless they are a party to a particular agenda item.)

In addition we held a press conference stating our opposition to the Albany Loop. At the press conference a team of informed anti-fracked gas pipeline presenters made their case against the Albany Loop Pipeline proposal. Click here to read Press Release. Becky Meier Co-founder of Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline and Community Advocates for a Sustainable Environment, Bob Cohen, Policy Director of Citizen Action of New York and the attorney who is representing SNYFGP in the PSC proceedings, Tina Tierney, town board member from East Greenbush, Merton Simpson, Albany County Legislator and Co-chair of Sheridan Hollow Alliance for Renewable Energy, Kim Fraczek, Director of Sane Energy Project and partner in the statewide Renewable Heat Now campaign, and Eric Weltman, New York based senior organizer with Food and Water Action all spoke about the lack of demonstrated need for the E-37 and the contradiction of permitting fracked gas infrastructure with the new Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.  Welton said, “New York’s ambitious climate goals are at serious risk if Governor Cuomo doesn’t block new fossil fuel projects like the Albany Look pipeline.”

News Channel 13 covered the event. We expect coverage on the evening news and it will be up on their website. Please add comments to their web posting of the event.  https://wnyt.com/ A representative from WGDJ, a commercial AM radio station in Rensselaer, NY and Mark Dunlea from Sanctuary for an Independent Media  audio- recorded the press conference.
